A 28-year-old alleged fraudster in Yobe State has been detained by police. He is known for stealing ATM cards and using them to withdraw cash from the accounts of his victims.

This information was disclosed in a statement provided to news reporters in Damaturu by DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Command’s public relations officer.

In order to swindle his victims, he said that the apprehended suspect, Justice Gibson, who is from Karim Lamido in Taraba State, creeps about ATM locations within Damaturu metropolis.

“On September 27, 2023, at or around 1300 hours, the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) detained Justice Gibson, 28, of Karim Lamido, Taraba State, at the First Bank ATM gallery on Gashua Road in Damaturu. Gibson was found in possession of a number of ATM cards from various banks that he had used to swap after defrauding innocent victims at ATM points.

According to the PPRO, “He was caught while trying to dispose of one Musti Kafa’s ATM card.”

DSP Abdulkarim claims that the suspect has admitted to using people’s ATM cards to make fraudulent withdrawals from Banks’ ATM gallery by observing customers who have trouble using the machines and offering to help them.

He said, “He (the suspect) would steal their PINs throughout the procedure, exchange the cards, and then abruptly give an excuse to leave for another ATM point, leaving his victims with phoney ATM cards and withdrawing all of the money in their accounts.

People in the State were urged to exercise caution when attempting to withdraw money from ATMs by the Commissioner of Police, Garba Ahmad, via the Command’s Spokesman.
