The Ogun State police have arrested a suspect wanted for armed robbery and rape, marking a significant breakthrough in local crime enforcement. Read more about the arrest.
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 33-year-old Shedrack Olawale Olayemi, who had been on their wanted list for participating in armed robbery and allegedly raping female students from Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, back in July.
Olayemi was apprehended by the Igbeba Division police in Ijebu-Ode following an intelligence report that confirmed his presence near the university area, where he was allegedly attempting to hide his identity.
The spokesperson for the state police command, SP Omolola Odutola, revealed this information in a statement on Monday.
The arrest marks a major advancement in the ongoing quest to deliver justice for the victims of the horrific crimes that shook the Ijagun community earlier this year.

The statement announced that the divisional police officer of Igbeba Division has apprehended a notorious suspect wanted for armed robbery.
Acting on a tip-off that identified Olayemi Olawale Shedrack, aged 33, trying to hide among the locals in Ijagun, authorities quickly verified his identity through intelligence. The police were promptly notified and swiftly apprehended him.
Olayemi Olawale Shedrack is being sought by the police in connection with armed robbery and rape charges. He has been identified as the main suspect in an incident that occurred on July 21, 2024. During this event, he reportedly took part in breaking into a women’s residence at Royal Villa within Tai University of Education Ijagun.
There, along with his accomplice, he allegedly robbed female students of valuable educational devices such as laptops and iPhones, sports watches, and money. Additionally, it is claimed that he engaged unlawfully with one of the students before fleeing from justice.
The police announced that a preliminary investigation has begun, and the suspect was promptly taken to the Igbeba police station for questioning. The individual will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation and subsequent prosecution.
At the same time, Commissioner of Police Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha has ordered the arrest of Olayemi’s associates. He also appealed to residents of the Ijagun community to provide reliable information that could help police track down other members of this criminal gang.
