The police in Lagos State denounced the attack on Peter Obi’s Labour Party (LP) supporters on Saturday and urged politicians to persuade their supporters to abstain from violence.
This information can be found in a statement made by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the state police spokesperson.
Some LP supporters were attacked on Saturday as they travelled to a rally in Tafawa Balewa Square where the party’s presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, was scheduled to speak.
According to Hundeyin, the police would stop at nothing to take decisive action against violators in accordance with the law.
In order to identify and prosecute the alleged perpetrators, he further stated that the police leadership has opened an inquiry into the attack.
“Four injured people were brought to the hospital right away and are doing well.
“The State Criminal Investigation Department has assumed inquiries into the event from Ilasan Division, which had earlier begun preliminary investigations,” Hundeyin continued.
