Police in Jos detain lady for reportedly killing housekeeper by assaulting her
Domestic abuse has been established as the cause of Margaret’s death at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), the housemaid of 11-year-old Nwachukwus of Vom, close to Jos.
According to information obtained by Daily Trust, Margaret suffered injuries to her back, buttocks, and both sides of her buttocks. These injuries went untreated until they got septic, which complicated her health.
The late Margaret was abandoned by her guardians despite having wounds, but she ultimately received assistance from a neighbour who drove her to a private hospital in Vom so that she could receive treatment for her injuries.
Sadly, the hospital sent the kid to the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), where she passed away owing to the infection from the injuries she had received.
The police have detained Mrs Nnemeka Nwachukwu, who is suspected of inflicting the wounds on the youngster.
“The housemaid had been a victim of sustained brutal abuse by the family that took her in in Vom, Jos South Local Government of Plateau State,” said Mrs Grace Pam, the NHRC’s director for Plateau state, who corroborated the event.
“I learned of the housemaid’s passing from a source in JUTH, and I went there to personally verify the event.
According to information obtained by my office, the victim was trafficked from the state of Kebbi and sent to her guardians in Jos to work as a housemaid.
Pam advised parents to make an effort to look after their kids and keep them from being trafficked for financial gain.
The police spokesperson for the Plateau State Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the occurrence and stated, “The matter is under investigation; the woman involved has been sent to the state CID for a full investigation and potential prosecution.”
