Police officers have detained eight suspected kidnappers in various locations in Bauchi State, including two female informants.
In operations that resulted in the neutralisation of numerous other alleged kidnappers and the rescue of 10 kidnap victims, they were apprehended in the month of July.
At a press conference held on Thursday at the police command headquarters in Bauchi, the state commissioner of police for the region, Auwal Musa Muhammad, revealed this.
A total of 70 cows, 60 sheep, and 60 goats that were thought to have been rustled were also found, according to the police chief.
According to CP Muhammad, on July 2, 2023, six people—including two women—who were terrorising Burra in the Ningi Local Government Area of the State were apprehended, and their refuge in the Burra forest was later destroyed.
According to the CP, many of the kidnappers were neutralised during the operation because of the police’s superior firepower, while others fled in confusion after being shot.
He listed the suspects who had been apprehended as being Hamisu Umaru, a crippled 30-year-old; Ahmadu Abdullahi; Adamu Wada Tela; Usman Iliya; and Rabi Tela Abdulmumini and Hajara Bello, two female informants.
The Command successfully apprehended six (6) alleged kidnapping gangs on July 2, 2023, along with their informants. Four (4) guys and two (2) girls who terrorised Burra village and Ningi LGA were taken into custody.
“As a result, the kidnappers’ hideout in Burra Forest was destroyed after the aforementioned individuals were apprehended. A large number of kidnappers were neutralised by the police’s intense superior firepower, while others fled in confusion while still carrying gunshot wounds.
Additionally, while conducting the missions, the Command freed five (5) kidnapped people from their captors’ hideout.
A woman and her child from Kurmi village, Mai Unguwan from Kayel village in the Balma district, three Fulani from Kurmi with their three (3) motorcycles, and the police chief.
On July 31, 2023, two suspected kidnappers were detained, and 70 cows, 60 sheep, and goats that had been stolen were found as part of an operation to free five more kidnapped people from Burra woodland.
In a related occurrence, the CP said that the police broke up a group of livestock rustlers terrorising Ningi and the surrounding area after receiving information from a Good Samaritan.
In the words of CP Muhammad, “on 29/07/2023 information was received from a Good Samaritan that on the same date at about 0300hrs two unknown people armed with cutlasses and sticks trespassed into the house of one Haruna Idi’m’, aged 23yrs of Zahi village via Burra village, beat the occupant to an unconscious condition and made away with his cows.
“Upon learning of the incident, a team of detectives dispatched from Ningi Divisional Headquarters sprung into action, went to the spot, and discovered one of the perpetrators, Abubakar Ahmed “m,” 45 years old, neutralised by crowd action. Additionally, they took the cows from them and detained 22-year-old Abdullahi Ahmadu “m.”
