Police in Edo have arrested a suspect linked to the Igueben train station kidnapping, nearly two years after the incident occurred.
Jonas Ehis, who was involved in the Igueben train station attack and kidnapping 20 months ago has been arrested by the Edo State Police Command at the age of 26.
According to OBASANJONEWS, the individual was apprehended for murdering Gazali Hassan on August 31st, 2024 and stealing his motorcycle.
On Friday, SP Moses Yamu, who is the Public Relations Officer for State Police announced that a suspect and 11 other individuals were being presented in Benin City for various offenses.
On January 7, 2023, numerous individuals were kidnapped when gunmen attacked the Igueben train station – as reported by OBASANJONEWS.
According to Yamu, the suspect was taken into custody on September 1st, 2024 after a police surveillance patrol intercepted the motorcycle he was riding along with two other individuals.
During interrogation, it was explained that a Techno Spark 9 handset in the suspect’s possession rang.

While on hands-free, the caller reported that Gazali Hassan – named as the owner of the phone – had disappeared with his motorcycle on August 31.
He said that the investigation was initiated based on the revelation and it was found during findings that the suspects murdered Gazali Hassan and stole his motorcycle.
According to the spokesperson for the command, agents were deployed after receiving notification of a crime in the Idumoza pipeline area located in Uromi within Esan North-East Local Government Area. The team successfully retrieved the deceased body.
According to him, an extensive inquiry resulted in the apprehension of seven more culprits who were causing havoc in Edo Central senatorial district.
According to Yamu, the suspects were accused of participating in both the robbery at Osigholo filling station and the fatal assault and abduction at Igueben train station.
He stated that investigations are in progress to apprehend the remaining members of the syndicate and retrieve their operational weapons.
During an interview, the suspect aged 26 revealed that he earned a total of N2 million from perpetrating the attack and abduction at Igueben train station.
According to him, he was hired as a logistics supplier for the rest of the suspects and utilized his motorcycle.
Amenvbagbe Ogelegbe hired me as a motorcycle rider to transport him and several others to the train station for the purpose of committing kidnapping.
“I took them there because Ogelegbe promised to pay me, and he did. He handed over N2 million as my share of the kidnapping,” explained the speaker.
