Police Explain Reason for Raiding NLC Secretariat in Abuja

The police have provided an explanation for their raid on the NLC secretariat in Abuja, detailing the reasons behind the operation and addressing public concerns.

It has been clarified by the Nigerian Police that the raid conducted on August 7 at Labour House in Abuja was not aimed specifically at the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) headquarters.

As per a statement released by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, the operation formed part of an ongoing inquiry aimed at apprehending a criminal suspect who was traced to renting a shop within the premises.

The police emphasized that the purpose of the raid was solely to apprehend a foreign individual who has been engaged in several criminal activities throughout Nigeria and various other African nations.

Adejobi made it clear that the operation had no connection with the NLC, its leaders, or employees.

The Police Force of Nigeria has taken notice of a report claiming that the Labour House – NLC National Secretariat in Central Business District, Abuja was subjected to a police operation.

The Labour House was reportedly raided by officers of the Nigeria Police Force, accompanied by some individuals in black T-shirts and others dressed plainly. This claim was made in a press statement released by the NLC.

In regards to an ongoing investigation, the Nigeria Police Force would like to clarify that a primary suspect was located within a shop situated in the Central Business District of the building.

He said that detectives, equipped with legal authorization, carried out a mission at the site which eventually revealed itself as the NLC structure.

The ongoing investigation was emphasized by the police as highly significant for both national and regional security, and they urged cooperation from the NLC and the public.

Adejobi urged Nigerians to remain watchful and perform comprehensive security screenings on those renting spaces in their compounds.
