Police eliminate three armed robbers, stopping robbery attempt in Rivers

The police in Rivers state have successfully foiled an armed robbery attempt at the Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic in Khana local government area, resulting in the death of three gunmen.

According to the police public relations officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, the authorities received a distress call and immediately dispatched officers from the Police Division, Bori, and the Anti-cultism unit to the scene.

Upon their arrival, a fierce exchange of gunfire ensued between the robbers and the police. However, due to the superior firepower of the law enforcement officers, the assailants were overpowered, and the robbery was effectively thwarted.

Unfortunately, during the confrontation, three of the suspects sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the Police Clinic in Bori for medical attention.

Tragically, their injuries proved fatal, and they were pronounced dead upon arrival.

The gang leader, identified as Monday Sulole, also known as “Oyoyo,” was a notorious armed robber and cultist responsible for numerous criminal activities, including cult clashes and armed robberies in the Ogoni area of Rivers state.

Sulole, aged 25 and hailing from Yeghe in Gokana local government area, had been a significant threat to the community.

The police statement further revealed that several items were recovered from the robbers, including a locally made revolver pistol with three live ammunition, a locally-made shotgun with three cartridges, a machete, and various charms.

These items serve as evidence of the criminals’ intentions and their preparedness for violence. The police assured the community that the situation has returned to normalcy, and to ensure the safety of residents, increased police patrols have been implemented in and around the vicinity.

The Rivers State police command acknowledged the concerns raised by the community regarding the harassment and robbery of students, particularly in the densely populated area.

The authorities are committed to addressing these issues and ensuring the safety and security of the residents. The successful operation against the armed robbers is a testament to the dedication and effectiveness of the police force in Rivers state.
