Two articulated trucks carrying 7,500 live cartridges and packages of Indian hemp valued more than N600 million were stopped by the Kebbi State Police Command.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), one of the trucks travelled from Ghana to Nigeria via Togo and Benin Republic, while the second vehicle sped across several security checks from Benin Republic to Nigeria.
The command’s spokeswoman, SP Nafi’u Abubakar, briefed journalists on the development and called the arrest “huge.”
He claimed that on September 10 at 7:30 pm, a police border patrol squad on Saransa-Maje Road in the Bagudo Local Government Area stopped a container truck with the Lagos licence plate IT 21520 LA that was carrying 4,927 parcels believed to be Indian hemp and worth more than N300 million.
According to Abubakar, three suspects—Emmanuel Chukwuma from Abia State, Kanta Bisa from Ghana, and Shola Adeyemi from Ondo State—were apprehended while others managed to flee.
The same border patrol squad seized a second container truck two days later, on September 12, at around 9:30 pm, carrying 4,106 bundles of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp and 7,500 live cartridges with the registration number IT 21608 LA.
“The substance is valued at over N300 million, and one AbdurRasaq Agbola of Iyana Ajiya area in Ibadan, Oyo State, was arrested,” the spokesman for the Kebbi Police Department stated.
