Akaninyene Sunday Okokon, who allegedly beat his 16-year-old daughter to death for using his phone to call her lover, was paraded by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command on Friday.
At a press conference held at the police command’s headquarters in Ikot Akpanabia, Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, Commissioner of Police Olatoye Durosinmi stated: “On December 11, 2022, relying on credible information, operatives of Ikot Ebo Divisional Headquarters arrested Akaninyene Sunday Okokon, who beat up his daughter, Abasiono Akaninyene Sunday, age 16, for using his SIM card Instead of being sent to a hospital after fainting, the sufferer was rushed to a prayer place in the village of Ikot Iya.
During an interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime.
“I beat my daughter, but she didn’t die after I quit; it was only after I stopped that her mother told me she was experiencing stomach issues,” he claimed.

A pipeline vandalism syndicate’s arrest was also highlighted in the CP.
He said, “On December 16, 2022, around 14:00, SIB agents arrested some members of a group that was known for damaging oil pipelines at Inua Eyet Mkpanak Village in the Ibeno Local Government Area.”
Oboh Effiong Effanga, 45, the youth president of Inua Eyet Mkpanak and a resident of Oboton village in the Odukpani Local Government Area, and Gabriel Akpan Owong Etim, 35, another youth leader, were both detained. Prosper and Ezekiel Akpan Johnson, both residents of Mkpanak village in the Ibeno Local Government Area, are the others.
According to CP Durosinmi, on October 16, 2022, a pipeline belonging to the Energy Oil Nigeria Company was vandalised by the quartet and unidentified others.
The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed his commitment to making Akwa Ibom safe while also promising that the suspects would be brought before a judge as soon as the investigation was over.
