Anambra police dismantle a sit-at-home enforcement syndicate, arresting two suspects involved in orchestrating illegal activities during the imposed lockdowns.
Anambra State Police Command operatives have apprehended two members of an armed robbery group reportedly imposing unauthorized sit-at-home orders in the state.
The arrests occurred on Monday at around 10 a.m. in the Nkwelle-Ezunaka, 3-3 area as part of a joint operation conducted by the police and Anambra Vigilante Operatives.
In a statement on Tuesday, Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police spokesperson, reported that on November 25th, 2024 at 10 am, a joint patrol led by the police and assisted by Anambra Vigilante Operatives successfully uncovered a notorious criminal gang of three in Nkwelle-Ezunaka’s 3-3 area. They arrested two armed suspects and declared another individual known as Akada wanted for charges related to armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms, and enforcing an unauthorized sit-at-home order.
The suspects, identified as Chinedu Amah and Prince Nwogu, were captured during a high-speed pursuit following an alarm raised by a victim who reported being robbed at gunpoint.
Ikenga stated, “The officers seized an English-made pistol along with other incriminating items. The suspects are Chinedu Amah and Prince Nwogu, both male residents of Nkwelle-Ezunaka.”
The operatives arrested them during a heated pursuit after the victim raised an alarm about being held at gunpoint and robbed of his iPhone and other personal belongings.
During the interrogation, the suspects allegedly admitted to the crime and identified their leader, Akada, who remains at large.
Ikenga stated that all the individuals confessed to the crime and identified Akada, who is currently at large, as their gang leader. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to locate other members of the group.
This operation is part of the ongoing initiatives by the Anambra State Police Command to tackle criminal activities throughout the state.
On Saturday, authorities announced the arrest of an alleged kidnapper who had been terrorizing residents along Enugwu-Ukwu Road in Njikoka Local Government Area.
In the press statement, Ikenga mentioned that the arrest occurred after a gunfight with the gang.
The suspect was apprehended by the joint security forces following a gunfight with the gang.
“The police, responding swiftly to credible information about the notorious gang’s planned activities in the area, successfully demobilized its members,” he stated.
