The Lagos State Police Command has reported the apprehension of an individual posing as a soldier who was previously sought after by the military. Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the command, verified the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday, noting that the suspect was captured on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Ijegun area of Lagos.
Mr. Hundeyin, a superintendent of police, explained that the culprit was seized during a routine visibility patrol conducted by the Ijegun Police Division in the Fagbile Estate, Ijegun, within Isherin Oshun. The patrol team discovered the man in possession of a full military uniform, identifying himself as a Sergeant Major (other names withheld), which he allegedly used for impersonation.
Following the arrest, the police contacted the military guard commander responsible for overseeing the pipeline in Ijeododo to verify the suspect’s identity. Upon confirmation that the individual was indeed an imposter, the fake soldier admitted to the act of impersonation during questioning.
The military confirmed that the suspect had been on their list of wanted individuals. Once the investigation is concluded, the imposter will face charges in court for his actions.
