Police Arrest 2 Suspects Supplying Weapons to Zaria Bandits

Police have arrested two suspects involved in supplying weapons to bandits in Zaria. Learn more about the arrests and their implications for local security.

Two suspects accused of providing arms to the Zaria-based bandits have been caught by the Kaduna State Police Command.

On August 14, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit arrested Abdulaziz Habibu and Nuhu Thomas in Dogon Dawa of Birnin Gwari Local Government Area. These suspects were residents of that area.

The Kaduna police spokesperson, Mansur Hassan announced on Monday that arrests were made at Madaci village in Zaria around 6:00 PM. The suspects were caught with a counterfeit AK-47 rifle which they purportedly planned to vend to bandits within the vicinity.

The statement stated that at Madaci village in Zaria on August 14 around 6 PM, two male suspects were successfully intercepted by operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit who had a fabricated AK-47 rifle.

The suspects admitted during interrogation to participating in an illegal arms trade and supplied critical details that are assisting authorities in determining and capturing their partners.

Another incident happened on August 18, where an attempt to abduct two farmers was stopped by the Police Mobile Force (PMF) situated in Kuriga. The perpetrators were armed with motorcycles but due to the prompt response of officers, a brief shootout ensued and they had no choice but to flee without their intended victims.

After enduring head injuries from an attack, the farmers were given medical attention at Kuriga Primary Health Care Centre and later released. According to a statement, they had stumbled upon two individuals on motorcycles who intended to abduct their fellow peers. The incident resulted in both parties exchanging gunfire before the assailants escaped without succeeding in their mission.

Audu Dabigi, the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State applauded the endeavors of those officers who participated in these operations and urged citizens to persistently offer significant information capable of sustaining security throughout the state.

The Kaduna State Police Command’s recent actions demonstrate the continuous attempts to thwart banditry and safeguard inhabitants’ lives and belongings in the vicinity.
