Nurudeen Disu, 44, a man accused of stealing 33 cows, was charged by police in Lagos on Thursday.
In front of an Ogudu Magistrate’s Court, the defendant—a resident of Anthony Village, Lagos State—is charged with one count of theft.
The charge, however, was accepted by him in a not guilty plea.

The defendant committed the crime between 2019 and 2023 at Anthony Village, behind the Newcastle Hotel, according to the prosecutor, Inspector Bassey Sunday, who testified in court.
It was said on Sunday that the defendant planned the theft with other people.
Mr. Bushura Adebuosu, the complainant, allegedly owned 33 cows that the defendant had stolen.
“The complainant gave his political son Ibrahim Mustapha of Useni Street, Anthony village, fifty cows total, valued at N20 million. Ibrahim Mustapha then hired Disu to look after the cows.
“Otunba Bushura went to pick the cows a few weeks ago and found that 33 of the 50 cows under his care had been stolen by the defendant.”
“He was unable to provide a convincing explanation regarding the cows.”
“He explained that Disu is a herdsman who used to raise cows for the locals.”
The prosecution claimed that Section 287 of Lagos State’s 2015 Criminal Law was broken by the offence.
Two sureties in an amount equal to N2 million were granted bail by Magistrate Mrs. O. A. Daodu to the defendant.
A prominent Hausa leader in Lagos State must be one of the sureties, she stated, and a religious leader must be the other.
A trial date of November 6 was set by Daodu. A NAN
