The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended three individuals suspected of being armed robbers.

These suspects were responsible for robbing and assaulting CSP Tokunbo Abaniwonda, the Divisional Police Officer of Alausa Ikeja, using a machete.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer of the command, confirmed this information to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday.

On April 9, at approximately 11:00 p.m., the Alausa division was conducting a sting operation at Otedola Bridge, Alausa Ikeja.

While the officers were stationed at the bridge, a gang of three armed robbers suddenly emerged from their hiding place and launched an attack on the DPO Alausa, wielding cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.

The suspects managed to escape with Abaniwonda’s Samsung S22 phone and fled to an unknown location after the assault.

Subsequently, on April 13, at around 10:00 a.m., intelligence gathering indicated that the aforementioned suspects were spotted hiding at a hotel in the Akute area of Ajuwon Ogun.

Acting swiftly upon receiving this information, the anti-crime team from the division swiftly moved to the location and apprehended a 29-year-old suspect, known as “THUG LIFE,” who was identified as the ringleader of the group.

Another suspect, aged 25, was also arrested alongside the ringleader at the hotel. Both suspects were taken to the police station for further investigation, and exhibits were discovered in their possession.

Hundeyin further revealed that the investigation uncovered that the suspects forcefully snatched the DPO’s handset after attacking her with a machete on her back.

Additionally, through continued efforts, the police were able to apprehend a third suspect, aged 25.

Further investigation revealed that the ringleader had been conducting robberies on Otedola Bridge for the past five years, consistently changing his accomplices for each operation.

The Lagos State Police Command is committed to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens by apprehending criminals and bringing them to justice.
