Tension is escalating in Kano as police officers have reportedly blocked the palace of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, preventing him from participating in a royal ceremony in Bichi Local Government Area.
The event was scheduled to include the presentation of a staff of office to the newly-appointed District Head of Bichi.
A source within the Kano Emirate reported that heavily armed security forces, including armored personnel carriers (APCs), blocked the entrance to the Emir’s palace, restricting all movement.
“The Emir was on the phone attempting to comprehend the situation. He was ready to depart for the ceremony when security operatives arrived and instructed him to stay inside,” an anonymous palace source disclosed.
Efforts by Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf to intervene encountered obstacles as his delegation was reportedly refused entry into the palace.
