Concerning the outcome of the state’s ongoing election petition tribunal, the Kano State Police Command has issued a warning against protests.

Crowds have been organised to protest the tribunal’s decision by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

To protest what they deemed attempts by the APC to steal their victory, the NNPP organised its members from all over the state to march from the Kofar Nassarawa City Centre to Government House.

But in response, the opposition APC released a statement through its spokesperson, Ahmad Aruwa, urging members to turn out in large numbers to oppose the NNPP.

In response, the State Commissioner, Muhammad Gumel, issued a statement under his signature that read: “In consideration of the confirming intelligence products at this Police Command’s disposal, all types of public protests are hereby outlawed across the State.

“Therefore, members of the public should be aware that, to the best of our knowledge, both the APC and the NNPP members are currently mobilising hired crowd under the guise of the Civil Society Coalition without prior authorization from the state’s security agencies or clearance from the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress.

Both the organisers and the umbrella organisation should be aware that any attempt to disrespect the NLC and the state’s security agencies by exploiting the precarious security situation that the various security agencies have been managing is not only uncivil and illegal but also a violation of national security.

Gumel stated that the police leadership is appreciative to the state’s decent citizens for their tremendous support and cooperation in promoting the peace, security, stability, and general welfare of all residents.
