Police accuse 27-year-old labourer of stealing phone and money
Samuel Manga, 27, was charged by the police with stealing a cell phone and cash on Friday in Lagos.
The defendant, who does not have a known residence, is in court facing a two-count conspiracy and theft accusation.
He did, however, enter a not guilty plea to the accusation.
Inspector Sunday Bassey, the prosecution, informed the court that the defendant committed the crime on February 25 at 7.15 p.m. at the BRT Bus Stop in Ketu, Lagos.
He said that the defendant and another person, who is still at large, took an Infinix Hot 10 phone valued at N60,000.
“The complainant said to the police that the defendant and another person forcefully took his phone and N3,000 in cash while threatening to stab him with a broken glass.
They went to Jakande Park with the money and phone, but with other lads’ assistance, the defendant was apprehended while his accomplice escaped, according to Bassey.
The prosecutor claims that Mr. Olusegun Shofowoke is the rightful owner of the phone.
According to Adeniyi, the offence was against Sections 287 and 411 of the Lagos Criminal Code of 2015.
The defendant was granted bail in the amount of N50,000 with two surgeries in the same amount by the magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Daodu.
She set the hearing date for March 20.
