On Friday, Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, a candidate for governor in the All Progressives Congress (APC), had his plea denied by the governorship election petition tribunal in Asaba, the capital of Delta State.

It will be noted that Sen. Omo-Agege had contested Sheriff Oborevwori’s victory in the March 18, 2023, governorship election as a candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Omo-Agege’s petition was denied by the tribunal presided over by Justice A.C. Ahuchaogu for lack of merit.

Omo-Agege quickly responded by announcing he will challenge the electoral tribunal’s decision to reject his petition in a statement sent by Sunny Areh, his media adviser.

He stated that he has instructed his legal team to proceed to the Appellate Court to appeal the tribunal’s decision.

Omo-Agege stated that the appellate court is anticipated to objectively assess various faults that the tribunal judges allegedly neglected before reaching their decision.

“Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, a candidate for governor in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a former deputy president of the Senate, has instructed his legal team to file an appeal against today’s ruling by the governorship election tribunal that upheld the election of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori as governor of Delta State.

“Senator Omo-Agege said that the Tribunal ignored the major faults in the March 18, 2023 governorship election that fatally undermined the designation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the victor.

“It goes without saying that the Tribunal worked in a setting that was extremely difficult. As a result, it disregarded the irrefutable evidence offered to contest the legitimacy of the legitimate votes as reported by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“I appreciate the Tribunal’s ruling, but it is flawed. I am certain that the Court of Appeal will objectively assess these shortcomings that the Tribunal neglected to address.

“I have, therefore, instructed my legal team to immediately travel to the Court of Appeal and continue the battle to restore the sanctity of the people’s vote.”
