A tragic incident occurred in Tilengpat village, located in the Pushit District of Mangu Local Government Area in Plateau State. Suspected herdsmen carried out an attack, resulting in the loss of numerous lives, predominantly women.
According to reports from the community, fourteen females and one male were brutally murdered during the assault, which took place on Thursday night. Additionally, the attackers caused destruction to houses and property within the village.
Marcus Artu, the Transition Committee chairman of Mangu, confirmed the incident to Channels Television.
However, the exact number of casualties remains uncertain as local hunters and members of the vigilante group are currently searching the surrounding areas for deceased individuals.
Artu expressed his dismay at the attack, describing it as a deliberate act by criminal elements who aim to disrupt the government’s efforts in resettling displaced persons. He emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and security within the community and stated that he would hold emergency meetings with security agencies and stakeholders to prevent any reprisals or further disturbances.
The chairman assured the continuous engagement of all relevant parties to promote peace among the people.
