A deadly clash between soldiers and bandits in Plateau has left many feared dead. Learn more about this tragic confrontation and its impact.
In the Gudiri community of Bashar District, Wase Local Government Area in Plateau State, there was a violent clash that led to numerous fatalities.
On Monday evening, a conflict took place amidst persistent worries of thievery in the area. This event occured merely days after a cop’s corpse was found following their abduction the week prior.
Soldiers and vigilantes from the area teamed up to take swift action against notorious bandits, resulting in a successful mission. Reports indicate that over one hundred cattle were restored following their seizure by the thieves.

Although it is uncertain how many casualties were sustained on either side during the incident, both military personnel and outlaws met tragic fates amidst this violent encounter.
Shapi’i Sambo, a leader of the youth in Wase, recognized that there was uncertainty about the exact number of casualties. Nevertheless, he verified that many bandits and some soldiers had died.
A member from a local watch group also stated that three soldiers and over fifteen bandits were killed during this altercation. The community welcomed this operation due to their long-standing affliction with robbery in their area.
The frequency of violent incidents in Wase Local Government Area is a cause for concern, as the previous attacks have resulted in significant casualties.
One such event occurred on May 21 when bandits attacked Zurak community resulting in over 40 fatalities and multiple injuries.
As frustration grows among residents due to the recurring occurrences of banditry, many are rallying behind military and vigilante efforts to combat this menace.
Despite the ongoing events, the Gudiri community remains resilient and steadfast in their determination to resist the pervasive violence that has deeply impacted them.
