The 19 Northern State Governors’ Forum, led by Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe state, strongly condemns the audacious attacks on certain communities in Plateau state, resulting in the tragic loss of over 100 lives. These acts are deemed “reprehensible and disheartening.”
During the attack on Sunday night, numerous houses were set ablaze by the assailants. These armed and ruthless individuals not only looted farm produce but also mercilessly butchered the residents while causing extensive destruction to properties.
Governor Yahaya, on behalf of the Northern Governors, commends Governor Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State for his exemplary leadership in the aftermath of these attacks.
The loss of over 100 lives and the destruction of properties during these attacks, particularly during a time when residents were preparing to celebrate the festive season, is truly reprehensible and disheartening.
Such acts of violence not only display cowardice but also contradict the principles of unity and coexistence that our region upholds.
It is imperative that we prioritize peace and harmonious living within our communities. Now, more than ever, we must reaffirm our commitment to peaceful coexistence and solidarity, regardless of our differences.
Governor Inuwa, while commending the security operatives for their swift response, emphasizes the urgent need to bring the attackers and their masterminds to justice.
Plateau state, like many other ethnically and religiously diverse hinterland states, has been plagued by inter-communal conflicts that have claimed numerous lives in recent years.
These acts of violence are often attributed to ethno-religious conflicts between Muslim herders and predominantly Christian farmers.
