Eleven members of the Plateau State House of Assembly from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been dismissed by the Court of Appeal, which is based in Abuja.
The panel, chaired by Justice Okon Abang, decided unanimously on Friday that the absence of structure in their party caused all the lawmakers who were fired to get wasted votes in the general election scheduled for March 2023.
According to Abang, the PDP was unable to support candidates in an election since they had broken section 177 of the 1999 constitution.
All of the second runners-up in the elections on March 18 were, nevertheless, pronounced winners by the court.
The individuals removed from office are: Hon. Timothy Dantong (Riyom); Hon. Rimyat Nanbol (Langtang North Central); Salome Waklek-Pankshin; Hon. Bala Fwangji (Mangu South); Hon. Maren Ishaku (Bokkos); Hon. Dagogot (Quaanpan North); and Hon. Nannim Langyi (Langtang North North).
The others are, in order, Hon. Abubakar Sani Idris (Mangu North), Gwottson Fom (Jos South), Hon. Danjuma Azi (Jos North West), and Nimchak Rims (Langtang South).
Right now, the All Progressives Congress is the dominant party in the legislature.
