According to the State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Umar Hamza, one of the last pilgrims from Kano State to complete the Hajj in 2023, passed away in Saudi Arabia.
According to a statement released by the Board’s public relations officer, Sulaiman Dederi, the news of the death was announced on Friday in the Gaya headquarters of the Gaya Local Government Area of the state by the board’s director general, Laminu Danbappa.
Danbappa added, “It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Alhaji Umar Hamza, one of our pilgrims who was still receiving treatment in a Saudi hospital.”

He stated that the 75-year-old pilgrim passed away on Thursday in a Saudi hospital following a brief illness, which the Saudi Hospital Management had confirmed.
He claimed he was saddened by the passing of Umar Hamza, an Islamic scholar.
The son of the deceased, Jafar Umar Hamza, other members of his family, and the Muslim Ummah as a whole received the Director General’s sincere condolences on behalf of the Board management.
He beseeched the Almighty Allah to grant his family the strength to endure the immense loss and eternal rest for the departed.
The release further stated that he claimed the Saudi Hospital Management would make the specifics of the funeral plans public.
