Philip Shaibu announces, “My spirit has left PDP,” indicating a major change in his political stance. Discover the reasons behind his decision and its impact.

“I am now an unofficial member of the All Progressives Congress (APC,” declared Philip Shaibu, who was recently reinstated as Edo State’s deputy governor.

On Friday, Shaibu spoke about his changing political loyalty during an interview with Arise TV’s Good Morning Show.

Shaibu, who faced impeachment in April, was recently reinstated by a federal high court located in Abuja. However, his convoy also suffered an attack from unidentified gunmen while he had been visiting Benin City and resulted in the unfortunate demise of a police officer.

Shaibu was with Monday Okpebholo, who is running for governor under the APC in Edo state when they were attacked. When questioned about his association with the APC candidate, Shaibu confessed to feeling disassociated from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Shaibu stated that although he is still a registered member of the PDP, his inclination and backing have moved to the APC. He made it clear that if he endorses Okpebholo, it would indicate total support for APC even though officially holding membership with PDP. Therefore, while Shaibu remains technically affiliated with PDP; however, he feels more allied to the ideology of APC. Thus as per his opinion, Shaibu considers himself an informal supporter of APC.

The impeachment of him resulted from disagreements with Edo State’s Governor Godwin Obaseki.
