The Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has vehemently rejected the impeachment carried out by the state House of Assembly, labeling it as unlawful and unjust.

The impeachment was reportedly based on the findings of a seven-man panel led by Justice S.A. Omonua, which investigated an impeachment petition against Shaibu.

In response to the impeachment, Shaibu took to his official social media handle to express his determination to challenge this perceived injustice, emphasizing that he will fight against it with all his might for the betterment of Edo State and the preservation of democracy.

He condemned the impeachment as not only an attack on his person but also a direct assault on the democratic values that the state upholds.

Shaibu further clarified that the impeachment was a direct result of his intention to run for the Edo State Governorship election in 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He asserted that this aspiration is well within his legal rights as a citizen of Nigeria and should not be used as a pretext for his removal from office.

The Deputy Governor accused the members of the State Assembly of betraying their duty to the electorate by participating in what he deems an illegitimate process.
