The Trade Union Congress (TUC) cautions the Federal Government that the recent petrol price hike could trigger social unrest, urging immediate action to address growing public discontent.

According to the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), the recent hike in Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) pump price has prompted concerns about potential social unrest in Nigeria.

TUC opposed the hike in petroleum pump price and cautioned that it would exacerbate poverty for laborers.

On Wednesday, Festus Osifo, the president of the union, signed a statement revealing this information.

Remember that on Tuesday, the cost of petrol per liter was raised from N617 to N897 and N855.

In response to the rise, TUC urged the Nigerian government to “revoke these rulings without delay, implement measures that will bolster the naira and firmly address Nigerians’ hardships.”

According to the argument, the abrupt increase was implemented with no input from essential parties and demonstrated a flagrant disregard for the wellbeing of Nigerians, especially those in working-class positions who are most affected by these choices.

TUC asserted that the abrupt rise in fuel and electricity expenses will worsen these difficulties, resulting in increased suffering and probable civil unrest.

Our plea to the government is for them to retract these decisions without delay, implement initiatives that will fortify the naira and effectively address the plight of Nigerians.

According to the Union, it is crucial for the government to take prompt action in order to rebuild trust and halt any additional deterioration of its citizens’ living conditions.

The Nigeria Labour Congress had previously demanded that the petrol price increase be reversed without delay.
