The President Election Petitions Tribunal has postponed the petition Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) nominee for president, submitted till Wednesday, May 10.

This was announced on Monday via Twitter by Kenneth Okonkwo, the party’s presidential campaign council spokesperson.

“Following a brief pre-hearing trial, the matter was continued to May 10, 2023, at 2 p.m. sharp. Alex Ejesieme SAN is here with me,” he declared.

Earlier, It was reported that the Tribunal had postponed the hearing of the petitions submitted by the Allied Peoples Movement and candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.

As was previously reported, security had been stepped up around the Abuja venue and the hearing of the petitions would start today (Monday).
The All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Tinubu was proclaimed the victor of the presidential election on February 25 by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
However, petitions were submitted to contest Tinubu’s victory by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Action Alliance (AA), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), and Action Peoples Party (APP).

Prior to the presidential election, the APM chose Atiku as its nominee, leading Princess ChiChi Ojei, the APM’s candidate, to call her party’s decision disgraceful and a defeat for Nigerian women.
The hearing of their applications was, however, postponed to Tuesday by Justice Haruna Simon Tsammni, the presiding judge who represents the tribunal panel.
The Action Alliance’s (AA) appeal, which contested Tinubu’s designation as the winner of the presidential election, was also dismissed by the Tribunal on Monday.
The Presidential Election Petition Court in Abuja dismissed the petition after the Action Alliance (AA) withdrew it earlier.
No explanation for the withdrawal was provided.
