During Peter Obi’s visit as the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential flagbearer on Saturday, the well-known Alaba International Market in Lagos was closed.

Before his presidential rally at Tafawa Balewa Square, TBS, the former Anambra governor’s convoy drove through the neighbourhood, stopping in Orile among other places.

Security guards struggled to keep the mob that around Obi under control as they trooped out.

The merchant, whose popularity soared after he chose the LP ticket, had been eagerly anticipated by several traders and shoppers in the area.

They sang, “Our father is here,” then the speaker addressed them and they repeated, “Obi, Obi, Obi…”

The candidate reiterated his commitments to reduce corruption, improve the economy, and boost government revenue through higher production.

Obi received an estimated 66% of the vote, according to a poll released by Bloomberg on Friday, making him the “most wanted candidate” in the presidential race.

Today, when they travelled to the TBS, supporters of the front-runner were accosted by criminals. The criminals brandished clubs and machetes and broke windows of cars.
