Visits the Onitsha market fire incident location and makes a particular commitment
Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the general elections of 2023, visited the scene of a recent fire disaster in Onitsha, where many locals came out to greet him.
According to Obasanjonews24, during the visit on Thursday, the scene in Onitsha, the commercial capital of Anambra, may have been misconstrued for a political gathering.
Valentine Ozigbo, a state contender for governor in 2021, was alongside Obi as he commiserated with the traders and assessed the damage.
Recall that on Tuesday afternoon, following a bomb in the Science and Lab Line of Ogbo Ogwu Market, a large fire devastated 80 stores in the Ogbo Ogwu International Market, Bridge Head, which also impacted merchants from the Tools and Allied union, ATDA union, and PS union.
When Obi visited, there were no official casualty counts available.
“I recognize your suffering. Like you, I am a trader, Obi informed the merchants.
I understand how you feel. The dedication you put into your business, only to have a fire break out and quickly destroy all you spent months building.
“We will reorganize the public and social services to increase the security of public areas if I win the election. To adapt to the needs of a 21st-century world and the population of Nigeria, emergency services and first responders like the fire department will be reorganized, retrained, and given new equipment.
Obi promised the dealers that “help is on the way.”
