Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has said that when he was governor of Lagos State, Olusegun Obasanjo punished him.

According to Tinubu, the decision was made against the Lagos State Government and not as a punishment for him personally.

He asserted that Obasanjo decided against his administration because he belonged to the opposition.

The APC presidential candidate spoke at a rally in Benin City, Edo State, in response to Obasanjo‘s support of Peter Obi, the nominee of the Labour Party (LP).

During his time as governor, he said that the previous president made it hard for him to fix problems with how energy was sent to people.

Additionally, Tinubu charged that the Obasanjo government was misusing and stealing funds intended to address electricity-related problems.

“I brought Enron in to address the electrical problem and aid the Lagos economy,” claims Tinubu. But Obasanjo and the PDP frustrated it. They penalised me and the residents of Lagos and even started taking our money.

“I set up local governments in Lagos to help the economy grow and give people jobs, but Obasanjo took our money and made us suffer as a result.

That was evil, and that individual claimed to have recommended a candidate for your presidential vote. Does Obasanjo have somebody in Nigeria he would suggest as a leader? A man cannot lead the way if he does not know the road.

“They punished me as governor of Lagos State, not personally, but Lagos State as a whole was punished.”
