Peter Obi Reveals Reasons for Not Constructing New Schools in Anambra During His Tenure as Governor
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has addressed the criticism regarding his alleged failure to build new schools during his tenure as Governor of Anambra State.
Reno Omokri, a well-known social media personality, had challenged Obi and his supporters to provide evidence of a single school that he initiated and completed during his eight-year term.
In response to this, Obi spoke at a press conference in Abuja and stated that those who accused him of not building schools had not familiarized themselves with his manifesto.
He explained that when he assumed office in Anambra State, the education system was in disarray, with many schools closed and the state ranking 26th in the country.
However, by the time he completed his tenure, Anambra had risen to become the top-performing state in terms of education.

Obi emphasized that his focus was on improving the quality of education and the overall well-being of the people. He ensured that schools had the necessary resources and facilities, enabling the students to excel academically and thrive.
He considered this achievement to be his manifesto, as it brought about a significant transformation in the state.
Furthermore, Obi defended his decision not to construct new schools when existing ones were in a dilapidated state. He compared it to building coastal lines while neglecting the internal roads that were impassable.
His approach was to prioritize the refurbishment and improvement of existing schools, ensuring that they were fully functional and equipped to provide a conducive learning environment for the students.
Overall, Obi’s response highlighted his commitment to education and his belief that investing in the existing infrastructure was more beneficial than constructing new schools from scratch.
He emphasized the positive impact his policies had on the education sector in Anambra State, transforming it from a struggling system to a model of excellence.
