If Peter Obi wins the 2023 presidential election, the construction of Ibadan State has been put before him by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Lekan Balogun.
Saturday, the party and its presidential candidate came to Oba Balogun’s home in Alarere, where he made his plea.
Speaking via the Otun Balogun of Ibadanland, Tajudeen Ajibola, Olubadan praised Peter Obi’s presentation on the numerous issues the nation is currently facing and how he plans to address them to create a new Nigeria that its people can be proud of. The Olubadan also agreed with the evaluation the LP presidential candidate gave Ibadan.
As he met the Olubadan and his Advisory Council members for the first time, he told the LP presidential candidate to stay focused and committed to his plans.
Olubadan told Obi, who was there with Oyo State’s gubernatorial candidate Taofiq Akinwale, about the different things he and his Advisory Council members were already doing. These included activities led by Dr. Doyin Okupe, Akin Osuntokun, Sola Ebiseni, the Secretary-General, Afenifere, Bola Doherty, and Mogaji Adejumo.
Olubadan described these initiatives as “symposia and meetings across all the local government areas in Ibadanland on how our people would live securely and how to ensure that the 2023 general elections are held without any form of violence,” with the goal of ensuring security throughout Ibadanland and peaceful general elections. These are Olubadan’s worries.
Olubadan is the father of all and considers you all to be his offspring, as might be anticipated. He is an open-hearted king who has traveled much. He has no ill will toward anyone, for whatever reason. We are glad to see you, and your presentation demonstrated your deep grasp of what you set out to accomplish. “We can only pray to God to grant you your heart’s wishes and the ability to carry out your plan for a more successful and better-off Nigeria to the letter,” Olubadan continued.
Obi had earlier stated in his speech that the 2023 presidential election should not be decided by a person’s tribe, ethnicity, or religion. These high chiefs included Balogun of Ibadanland, Owolabi Olakulehin, Osi Balogun, Lateef Adebimpe, Ashipa Balogun, Kola Adegbola, Osi Olubadan, Eddy Oyewole, and Ekerin Olubadan, Ham
All of those factors, according to him, “are an elite plot to keep the country down.” Where have they all led us? I’m offering Nigerians what I did as a two-term governor of Anambra State. I’ve been urging Nigerians to research any of us who are interested in leading the nation. What did we accomplish throughout our prior assignment points? For Your Imperial Majesty, mine is not a difficult request because any of our relatives in Onitsha, where I was born, can just tap to reveal my profile.
Other factors to take into account when choosing our next president, which, in my opinion, shouldn’t be based on a candidate’s party affiliation, include their character, competency, capacity, commitment, and level of mental and physical stamina. We can all make promises, but let’s use the criteria outlined above to assess the individual making the promises. What degree of faith may we have in the promise-maker? Obi enquired.
The idea of staying in Abuja and being unaware of what is happening in the states of the nation would be a thing of the past, he claimed, as the states would serve as the hub of activity under his presidency. He bemoaned the fact that almost all of the federal government’s infrastructure in the states had crumbled, making progress and real development nearly impossible.
He cited numerous facts and figures to support his claim that Nigeria is not where it should be given its abundance of natural resources and human capital. He complained that Nigeria is the only member of OPEC where oil worth billions of dollars is practically stolen every day. However, oil money is still the main source of the country’s foreign income.
“The government that the Labour Party (LP) will form in May 2023 will fight corruption since advancement is impossible in a system where it is the norm.” By the time corruption is attacked head-on and vanquished, crime will decline because many young people who are unemployed and living in poverty will be freed from such conditions. We need to rebuild this nation and make it functional once more. This is my message to you, Kabiyesi, and the residents of Ibadanland, and with your help, I am confident that it is possible.
