Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) has vowed to lift 130 million people out of poverty if he is elected president in the 2023 general election.
He stated this after attending the NKST Synod in Mkar, Gboko Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State.
His comment was in reaction to recent figures by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) indicating that 63 per cent of the Nigerian population lives below the poverty line.
The Labour Party presidential flagbearer pledged while speaking with newsmen at the JS Tarka stadium, Gboko, Gboko LGA of the state on Friday.
“I came on the Synod’s request to talk to them about the forthcoming election, which I feel is an important election,” he claimed.
“As I stated, the publication reveals that Nigeria has a population of roughly 216 million people, and it is estimated that 130 million of them live in poverty. This fact alone should worry us, and it is also my main concern.
How can we help these individuals escape poverty?
I believe this to be essential, which is why I’m here to assist them in making the best decision.
“They must consider the education of their children and what they can do to the nation; establishing a nation is the responsibility of the government and of all Federal agencies operating within the country.”
