The Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate for the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has raised serious concerns regarding the ongoing power crisis in the country, highlighting the alarming rate of national grid collapses which have occurred 141 times over the span of 11 years, emphasizing the urgent need for practical solutions to address this issue.
Obi pointed out that Nigeria’s current power generation capacity stands at a mere 13,000 megawatts, falling significantly short of the demand which hovers around 200,000 megawatts, resulting in a severe deficit in meeting the energy needs of the population.
