Peter Obi, a presidential contender for the Labour Party in the 2023 election, has refuted claims that he bought Rufai Oseni’s favour.
In order to enhance the former Anambra Governor’s reputation, Rufai of Arise Television was recently charged with accepting bribes from him.
The relationship between the two was allegedly sparked by Obi’s financial sponsorship of Rufai’s father’s funeral.
However, in response to the accusations, Obi stated on his page on Monday that the news was an outright falsehood and that it lacked any element of truth.
Obi claims that Rufai is a television host who severely speaks the truth to everyone, even himself.
In part, the statement states, “Anyone who has followed my corporate and political life knows that I always stay on problems, with my concentration on finding answers to societal concerns and easing people’s suffering.
However, I do need to make a few clarifications, especially because a third party is involved.
“There is a recent instance in which my name has been brought up in a cheap and vicious blackmail against one of Nigeria’s top television hosts, Mr. Rufai Oseni, who has firmly stood up for what is right and has on occasion challenged me boldly while speaking truth to power.
“Recently, I was accused of paying for Mr. Rufai Oseni’s father’s funeral as a kind of bribery.
“Let me say right up front that this is a flat-out falsehood. It can never be true and will never be real, so it cannot be true. I don’t pay anyone money to spread the word about me, as anyone who knows me or follows my methods can confirm.
