Peter Obi criticizes demolition of properties in Lagos and other states, stating that it is an act of cruelty
Former Anambra State governor Peter Obi has condemned the ongoing demolition of houses in Lagos and other parts of the country.
In an effort to keep the state from flooding, the Lagos State Government is actively removing buildings that are situated on drainage systems.
He said that property demolitions ought to be done with human faces because of the difficulties facing the country.

In a series of tweets on X (formerly Twitter), the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party urged governments that were demolishing buildings to proceed cautiously.
“I have watched the ongoing property demolitions across the nation with utter despair and sadness, especially in light of the additional suffering that these actions have inflicted upon unfortunate people who are already struggling with multifaceted poverty.
“Those who are impoverished and using their limited resources are experiencing extreme financial strain, which shouldn’t be exacerbated further,” he remarked.
Obi bemoaned the fact that the old and crippled sometimes used their demolished properties as their retirement homes and life savings.
Therefore, I’m making a request to the various governments involved in this act to take into account the difficulties facing the nation and make an effort to humanise their activities.
“Government must act compassionately in all its actions, even as we enforce reasonable regulations,” Obi said.
