Kenneth Okonkwo leaves the Labour Party, claiming Peter Obi lacks the capacity to lead Nigeria effectively in 2027.
Keneth Okonkwo, who served as the spokesperson for the Labour Party presidential campaign during the 2023 general election, has abandoned his affiliation with them.
Okonkwo attributed his decision to the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi and the ongoing crisis within the party.
The politician who is also a filmmaker criticized both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that neither party is leading Nigeria in any meaningful direction.
According to him, the joint leadership of both political parties is attempting to cause damage to Nigeria as this prosperous nation currently faces economic turmoil.
Okonkwo expressed in a letter on Sunday that the people have been compelled to protest for their survival by the APC, as they perceive no prospects for future prosperity.
The filmmaker emphasized that the only way to overthrow “these kakistocrats and kleptocrats” is by having a strong political party with firm grassroots support.
Okonkwo commented that a resolute leader is required, one who will display courage and altruistic qualities by ensuring our triumph when the people elect such an individual. The corrupt and inept officials do not facilitate impartial elections; instead they seize power from any feeble or undecided candidate at their whim.
Describing the judiciary as “electoral bandits” who snatch electoral triumphs in plain view of everyone at gunpoint, the politician, known for his legal background, proclaimed.
Okonkwo expressed his quest for a “leader possessing both integrity and commensurate charisma and bravery to rally the people towards sustaining victory, should Nigeria opt for such an individual. The era of placidity has come to an end.”
He claimed that the 2023 election had been fraudulently taken away from them despite their hard work and struggles towards achieving success. Furthermore, he stated his belief that due to rampant abuse of the judicial system, democracy would not be provided by the judiciary. Henceforth, he urged people to seize control over their fate themselves.
Individuals who aspire to take the lead in such an endeavor must be willing to step up and embrace any challenges that come their way, including hardships.
The ongoing suffering of Nigerians under the rule of those they never elected, but who seized power by force, must not be tolerated. Unless a resolute leader arises to thwart them using people’s votes, these individuals will maintain their grip on authority until 2027.
new course for my own political future.” The current events within the Labour Party have motivated me to steer a new path towards my political aspirations.
As I embarked on my political journey, a new course emerged. Following the 2023 general election, both myself and fellow Nigerians had great expectations for the Labour Party to lead us forward.
My conviction is that Peter Obi will capitalize on the momentum and establish a party grounded in integrity, which will provide us with a strong foundation to oust these inept and corrupt leaders.
All he had to do was give the correct instructions and everyone would follow suit.
The first surprise came to me when he made a public declaration of not promising Nigerians the creation of a powerful Labour Party, but vowing to tackle Nigeria’s issues.
“I initially wondered if Peter Obi wasn’t aware that a strong party base is essential to our political success. Despite this, I defended him with the hope he would address LP’s issues behind closed doors – unfortunately, my efforts were fruitless.”
PO publicly insisted that the National Working Committee led by Abure must arrange an all-encompassing conference, which ensures every member of Labour Party’s participation in selecting their leaders.
Despite the expiration of their time, PO surprisingly chose not to distance himself from the shenanigans and criminal activities of the former NWC; however, it’s worth noting that this event did not occur.
Due to the lack of leadership from PO, every Labour Party member is currently uncertain about its future. Unfortunately, when they seek information on PO’s position through me, I have no insight to offer as I am also unaware. It would be disingenuous for me to speak on behalf of a leader whose stance on crucial matters remains unknown. Regrettably, manipulating facts isn’t my area of expertise.
It is surprising to me that PO did not openly endorse the admirable work of Labour Unions who established the Labour Party as a platform for advocating worker welfare. This has resulted in some individuals voicing their opinion that PO has become an impediment to LP’s goals.
The Labour Unions are currently facing the unpleasant circumstance of battling against criminals who aim to take control over their party, even though a simple statement from PO could have resolved the issue. I cannot prolong this state of uncertainty indefinitely.
fighting for the rights and benefits of workers.” Without changing the meaning, one possible rephrased sentence could be: “I fully endorse both Labour Unions and other relevant stakeholders in their current efforts to safeguard worker’s rights and privileges.”
Without the support of PO, one was forced to battle for LP’s soul.
The outcome is that I’ve lost faith in PO’s abilities to construct a winning party against corrupt officials and thieves; furthermore, he has demonstrated an inability to maintain electoral support.
My intention is not to undertake a campaign similar to the one in 2023, where we supported an individual who wouldn’t be able to maintain their success even if they were elected.
“I have decided to continue my political journey towards a better Nigeria without Peter Obi, and it is with this in mind that I say so.”
