Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s Presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has attributed the tragic deaths of 35 individuals in Kogi and Enugu states to the poor road infrastructure and insecurity during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
In a series of posts on his official social media account, Obi highlighted the devastating impact of accidents that claimed the lives of 19 people in Kogi on Sunday and 16 in Enugu on Tuesday.
He emphasized the urgent need to prioritize the development of internal roads over grand projects like the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Superhighway, stressing that the nation’s resources should be directed towards essential infrastructure.

The tragic incidents, confirmed by the Enugu State Police Command and Kogi State Federal Road Service Corps, underscored the critical importance of addressing road conditions and security challenges to prevent further loss of lives.
Despite facing criticism from the federal government over his stance on the highway project, Obi remained steadfast in advocating for the improvement of internal roads to ensure safety and accessibility for all citizens.
His heartfelt condolences and prayers were extended to the families of the victims, as well as to the governments and people of Kogi and Enugu states, during this difficult time.
