Peseiro is given a three-day deadline by NFF to accept a pay decrease or leave his position
The Nigeria Football Federation has given Jose Peseiro, the head coach of the Super Eagles, a three-day deadline to agree to a pay cut and extend his contract.
The Portuguese will resign from his position if he doesn’t make a choice within the allotted three days, according to the NFF through its technical committee.
If Peseiro declines to comply with the NFF’s request, Sheriff Rabiu Inuwa, the chairman of the technical committee, has hinted that the NFF will name a caretaker coach to oversee the Super Eagles’ 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe next month and then begin the search for a permanent head coach.
The 63-year-old’s previous contract ended at the end of the previous month, and he has said he hopes to take the Super Eagles to the AFCON finals in Cote d’Ivoire in 2023.
However, the former Venezuelan and Saudi Arabian coach is not ready to accept a pay cut from his $70,000 annual compensation.
In May 2022, Peseiro took over as coach of the Super Eagles.
