Jose Peseiro, the ex-manager of the Super Eagles, has revealed why he resigned as head coach of Nigeria’s male national soccer team.

In February, the Portuguese coach’s tenure came to an end as he left his position following the expiration of his contract.

On May 15, 2022, Peseiro became the head coach of the three-time African champions. He was tasked with leading and guiding the Super Eagles through significant competitions.

Earlier this year, Nigeria clinched the second position at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Cote d’Ivoire under his guidance.

Despite facing challenges, Peseiro considered his tenure as the coach of Super Eagles to be exceptional. He reminisced about managing one of Africa’s leading football teams and cherished this unique experience.

“I have made the decision to leave when I finish with AFCON,” he stated. “Putting in excessive effort caused immense stress, despite being supported by my family and players which led me to feeling exhausted. Regardless of winning or not, it was enough for me.”

“The job in Nigeria was fantastic, with talented players. Our performance in the AFCON tournament was impressive and I believe our team was unbeatable until we were defeated by Cote d’Ivoire.”

Peseiro is currently unemployed after his departure from Nigeria, and he expressed that he is patiently awaiting the ideal project.

“I am anticipating a promising job opportunity, awaiting the right move. While there were proposals from South Africa, Europe and Brazil alike, I deliberately opted out of them as they did not meet my standards.”

He said that someone had informed him about the Sundowns job and some other things, but it wasn’t anything significant until now.
