Even though the deadline for collecting voter information has been moved to February 5, 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, has said that people who have registered twice or more will not get Permanent Voter Cards, or PVCs.
Festus Okoye, National Commissioner of INEC and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, stated in a statement released on Saturday that the additional week would be the last extension for the collection of PVCs.
The deadline for PVC collection was set for Sunday, January 29, 2023, but the electoral umpire extended it by a week.
The commission had discussed the ongoing collection of PVCs in its 774 local government offices throughout the country at a meeting with the Resident Electoral Commissioners, or RECs, on Friday. The RECs came from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of the commission, said during the meeting that the commission would be willing to take extra measures to guarantee that everyone has ample opportunity to obtain their PVCs before the general election.
“The Commission has decided to further extend PVC collection in all its local government offices nationally by an extra one week,” it read. “This decision was made in light of reports from the various states and talks with resident electoral commissioners.
“Therefore, the nationwide collection of PVCs will continue and conclude on February 5, 2023.”
The Commission did not print the PVCs for those who engaged in repeated registrations or double registration; therefore, they shouldn’t waste their time visiting any of the Commission’s offices.
The collection time has been extended by two hours and will now begin at 9 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. every day, including Saturdays and Sundays, it was stated.
It guaranteed that everyone who completed the legal registration process would be able to pick up their PVCs.
