The president also took the opportunity to offer prayers for the Nigerian soldiers who are fighting insurgency on the front lines.
Wednesday in Lagos, President Bola Tinubu urged Nigerians to have confidence in God that the nation would experience peace, stability, and prosperity.
Speaking to reporters after attending the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the Dodan Barracks prayer site, the President emphasized the importance of cooperation and togetherness, urging Nigerians to shun ethnic and religious rivalry.
The President noted that Allah would not put on the nation more than it can bear:
“I praise the Almighty Allah for keeping us healthy up to this point and ask Him to bestow upon us a strong health and prosperity. Let wealth result from our sacrifices. We must make the necessary sacrifices, there is no doubt about it.
Allah, however, won’t give you a load you can’t bear. He stands by our side. We must have confidence in the nation. Have faith in ourselves and the fact that, as citizens, we must work together to construct this country.
“Let us live together in harmony and wealth, regardless of our religion or tribal identities. Nigeria will experience peace and stability, and God will provide peace to those of us fighting on the front lines.
The President used the occasion to pray for Nigerian troops fighting on the front lines against insurgency, adding it is his sincere hope and the hope of the country that they succeed. The President’s communications adviser, Dele Alake, released the prayer in a statement.
The Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sheikh Sulaiman Oluwatoyin Abu-Nolah, presided over the Eid prayer, which got under way at nine in the morning.
Later, the Chief Imam carried out the required ram killing at the Eid prayer grounds to commemorate the importance of Prophet Ibrahim’s heroic deed of complete obedience to Allah’s order.
Speaking on behalf of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat congratulated Muslims in the state and throughout Nigeria on the joyous Eid-el-Kabir celebration and urged them to stand with President Tinubu in his resolve to improve the nation.
“Praying for our leaders is something we must do. We need to hope that God will guide our president in completing the task at hand.
The National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the former Governor of Lagos State and former Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, as well as other prominent government officials and top politicians, attended the prayer.
