Peace returns to Kano as residents comply with a 24-hour curfew. Find out more about the curfew’s enforcement and its impact on the city.

After Thursday’s anti-hunger protests that led to violent acts and extensive looting of public properties throughout the state capital, Kano has now regained its calm.

The riots caused by the hoodlums resulted in almost all human activities coming to a halt as law-abiding residents sought refuge inside their homes to avoid the violent chaos.

To avoid further chaos and safeguard lives and property, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was forced to enforce a 24-hour curfew in the state.

This measure is aimed at preventing further atrocities committed against innocent individuals and thefts carried out on both public and private assets by criminal gangs.”

During checks conducted in the city this morning, it was observed that there was full adherence to the curfew as the streets of the commercial hub were unoccupied while security personnel patrolled them.

To comply with the curfew, markets, banks, filling stations, eating establishments and shopping malls have all closed.

Security operatives only permit individuals who are essential service providers, such as medical personnel and media professionals, to move freely throughout the city.

The security personnel are anticipated to permit Muslims to attend Friday prayers in the different Mosques throughout the historic metropolis.
