The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the largest opposition party in Nigeria, has unveiled a schedule and set of activities for individuals vying for its ticket in the upcoming February 2024 bye-elections.
This announcement comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) previously disclosed the dates for the polls.
In the early hours of Tuesday, Umar Bature, the National Organizing Secretary of the PDP, provided a comprehensive timetable.
As per the released information, those aspiring to become Senators will be required to pay N500,000 for an expression of interest form and N3 million for the nomination form. House of Representatives candidates will need to pay N500,000 for the expression of interest form and N2 million for the nomination form. State Assembly aspirants, on the other hand, will be expected to pay N100,000 for the expression of interest form and N500,000 for the nomination form.
In order to promote inclusivity and diversity, the PDP has introduced measures to provide concessions.
Women candidates and individuals with disabilities are exempted from paying the expression of interest fee and are only required to pay the cost of the nomination form. Additionally, the party offers a 50% discount on the nomination form fee for candidates below the age of 40, although they will still be required to pay the full price for the expression of interest form.
