The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters at the Iyana Mortuary was set on fire, according to certain candidates and PDP leaders in Ogun State’s Abeokuta South Local Government Area.
The assailants were individuals who are terrified of free and fair elections in Ogun State in 2023, according to PDP stakeholders.
The opposition party members asked INEC to guarantee a prompt replication of the 65,699 PVCs that were allegedly burned in the Thursday fire assault during a meeting of the PDP leaders held on Friday.
The stakeholders expressed outrage at the burning of the abovementioned PVCs only three days before the scheduled date of distribution at the meeting held at the Abeokuta South PDP secretariat in Ago-Egun, Abeokuta.
They said the burned PVCs were to be distributed beginning on Saturday, November 12.
The meeting’s leaders, who included Messrs. Isiaka Amodemaja, Semiu Sodipo, Fasiu Bakene, Odejinmi Ismail, Folake Martins, Mukaila Adekunle, Kamaar Sodipo, Toyin Amuzu, Olajide Atobatele, and Idowu Olowofuja, unanimously urged that “none should be excluded from participating in the 20
They criticized the incident and called it strange because to the arsonists’ targeting of the safes where the PVCs were stored, and they questioned why anyone would be scared of having a free and fair election.
The people’s will, which is the will of God, will triumph, therefore those who are terrified of free and fair elections should have realized by now that their games are over. Why do people feel fear? No amount of intimidation will help them since they have attacked the electoral umpire after using selfish individuals to disrupt other parties, according to a statement signed by the party leaders.
The PDP stakeholders urged parents to issue warnings while requesting security authorities to look into and apprehend the culprits of the conduct.
