PDP releases schedule for Edo governorship poll

The Peoples Democratic Party’s National Working Committee has released its schedule of events ahead of the Edo State gubernatorial election.

The schedule, which was approved by Umar Bature, the party’s national organising secretary, was released to the public on Thursday after a combined meeting of the board of trustees and national executive committee of the organisation was held at its Abuja headquarters.

According to the timeline, the party will call a congress on February 22, 2024, and then announce its candidature for governor.

Young people between the ages of 25 and 30 would receive a 50% discount on the nomination form. Those who want to run for governor can obtain the form for N21 million.

The programme of events states that registration for both new and existing members will take place from November 16 to December 7.

The deadline for submitting the ward register to the Directorate of Organisation and Mobilisation is December 14. Meanwhile, the National Working Group will host a consultative meeting with stakeholders on December 19 and 20.

The dates for sales of expression of interest and ad hoc forms for all offices are January 10–16. The deadline for submitting full expression of interest and ad hoc forms is January 17.

On January 18, 2024, the National Working Committee will examine candidates for the governorship.

Sales of nomination forms to candidates who have completed and filed their expression of interest form are scheduled for January 19–25. The deadline for submitting nomination forms that have already been completed is January 27.

The governorship primary is scheduled for February 22 and the appeal for the primary is scheduled for February 24.
