They said that Tonye Cole, an APC candidate for governor, instigated the attack on them on Monday by thugs.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters in Port Harcourt, the state capital, was the site of further Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) protests on Tuesday about the examination of materials used in the most recent general elections.

Several State Assembly members joined the demonstration today, including the Speaker of the House, Martins Amaewhule, the Deputy Speaker, Edison Ehie, and the Chairman of the Ikwerre Ikwerre Local Government Area, Samuel Nwanosike.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Candidate, Tonye Cole, is being sought after by the PDP for alleged murder in addition to joint examination of electoral demands and the issuance of Certified True Copies of Outcome Sheets.

They claim that Cole instigated the attack on them by thugs on Monday during the rally, which is said to have resulted in one person’s death.

According to them, the party has petitioned the police commissioner for Cole’s arrest and prosecution.

They also provided an acknowledged copy of a petition filed by the PDP on March 24, 2923, in which the party sought that INEC provide Certified True Copies of voting materials.

They declared that the protest would go on in order to prevent a repeat of the 2016 incident, in which the Appeal Court reportedly overturned the PDP’s victories in the State’s elections using evidence from the police, and a similar incident in Imo State, in which Governor Hope Uzodimma was reportedly declared the victor of the governorship election using police evidence.

They contend that “some corrupt police may have in their usual way” provided phoney evidence to the APC through the contacts they had when their lawyers were recently detained, and that these contacts were then passed on to some corrupt INEC officials who substituted the results at the INEC office for the real ones.

As of the time of publication, attempts to contact Cole about the PDP’s most recent murder accusation had not been successful.
