PDP Laments the Loss of Abia Governorship Candidate Educator Ikonne
PDP requested all party officials, participants, and backers continue praying for Ikonne’s family.
The sudden death of Prof. Uchenna Eleazar Ikonne, the PDP’s candidate for governor of Abia State in the March 11, 2023, election, who passed away this morning at the National Hospital in Abuja, has shocked the party’s national working committee, according to the statement.
“Alas, our hearts bleed; Prof. Ikonne’s passing is a serious blow to the PDP family, Abia State, and the country as a whole.
“Prof. Ikonne was a superb and devoted member of our party who helped ensure the PDP’s sustained triumph in Abia State and across the nation.

“The people of Abia State were resolved to elect him as Governor of Abia State because he was a dedicated patriot, a highly clever academician, a seasoned optometrist, and a superb administrator who gave himself to the service of his people and humanity,” the party said.
The PDP National Leadership expressed its condolences to the family of Prof. Ikonne, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, the Abia State PDP Chapter, and the whole Abia State population. They prayed to God to comfort everyone and grant the faithful departed eternal peace.
The PDP, Prof. Ikonne’s family, the people of Abia State, and the NWC were all urged by the NWC to continue praying for Prof. Ikonne’s family, the PDP, and Abia State in light of this terrible loss.
The PDP flags at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja are to be flown at half-mast in remembrance of this “exceptional” Nigerian, per a directive from the NWC.
