Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in Ondo State has been given a three-day deadline to resume working out of the governor’s office in Akure or resign.
In a show of displeasure over the governor’s persistent absence, the party’s youth wing issued the ultimatum on Monday at the secretariat in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.
In order to stop the demonstration from happening, a group of security personnel earlier that day that included members of the Police, Department of State Services, and National Security and Civil Defence Corps, or NSCDC, blocked off the PDP secretariat.
Since his return from a medical leave in Germany more over four weeks ago, Akeredolu has not been seen in the state.
One of the PDP’s young leaders, Tayo Oluyi, claimed that the state could no longer tolerate a “leadership vacuum.”

“We are saying Mr. Governor must resume back to duty,” Oluyi remarked. He is no longer able to rule us by proxy, and we are no longer able to infer his identity from what we have heard about him.
“We are aware of the governor we have; if he were actually healthy, we would have seen him around Akure’s streets.
“The party’s youth wing is giving Mr. Governor three days to return to the state before giving him the next 24 hours to address the people of Ondo State.
The opposition party will occupy Akure’s streets and continue to demand that he either restart or quit. “We are giving him a three-day deadline to address us.”
